Allergy Friendly Travel Eats! Post #6

Wonderful discoveries while travelling with Allergies!

Find #6 - Gelateria Della Palma, Rome, Italy

When I was fortunate enough to visit Rome with friends some years back, the last thing I was expecting was to be able to eat so much amazing food - getting to safely enjoy some gelato on our first night in the city was easily the most surprising of all.

At the tail end of our walking tour, we eventually made our way past the Pantheon and down Via della Maddalena, to our final destination - the 150 flavours at @gelateriadellapalma.

At first I was browsing out of sheer curiosity, without any expectation, so I was pretty bowled over when I discovered a section of 'soia' gelato 😯 I'd never before had any form of coffee ice cream so I decided to check with the staff if that flavour was safe.

I'd downloaded an app for the trip called Allergy Traveller (also pictured but sadly now defunct) and practiced my non-existent Italian based off that (my app used 'dado' for nuts but relooking into it, perhaps it should've been noce? Either way, it worked 😂).

The staff very kindly listened to my attempts, read my app screen and confirmed that the coffee soia gelato would be sans cross contamination. Test bites done, dusted and with not a trace of a reaction, I dug right in with the biggest smile on my face and it was even lovelier than I'd hoped.

If you're wandering about Rome and looking for a gelateria with dairy, egg, gluten or sugar free gelato, check them out! Heck, even just to see what 150 flavours looks like, it's worth a look in.

Meanwhile, after a very kind mention, I've decided to highlight other allergy insta accounts I enjoy in each post so first up! For anyone interested in more posts on travelling with allergies, I highly recommend following @allergictraveller who posts both great advice and some really gorgeous travel shots 😊
